Sahib Mahal in Khadaro village, Badin is a tribute to the love of Mir Khuda Baksh Talpur in memory of his beloved wife, Sahiba Khatoon. Inspired by the Taj Mahal in Agra, the palace was crafted under the guidance of renowned architect Faiz Muhammad Salawat, and constructed with materials imported from India and Britain.
A significant aspect of the palace is that it was completed in 1947 just as the subcontinent occurred, and Pakistan emerged out of India.
Despite the loss of its gardens and pool, the three-story palace still boasts original woodwork and underground rooms, and remains a powerful relic of romance and resilience. Visitors continue to call it “Sindh’s Taj Mahal,” a testament to the cultural devotion that binds India and Pakistan. Within its silent halls, the Sahib Mahal preserves not just a love story, but Pakistan’s by-gone history..
