Rising prices of petrol and environmental pollution in Pakistan have increasingly turned people’s attention towards electric bikes.
Using these bikes alleviates financial burdens as they don’t require petrol. With a single charge of up to 2 ½ hours, the bike can run at a speed of 60-80 km for almost 50 miles.
Under the Electric Vehicle Policy introduced in 2019, various companies are manufacturing and selling e-bikes in Pakistan. These companies include Vlektra, Eco Dost, Jolta Electric, Road King, National, and Hi-Speed.
Electric bikes are often seen as expensive compared to traditional motorcycles, which in turn are rated as the transport of the poor.
EV bikes cost 2.5-5 lakhs, making people hesitant to purchase them.
Pakistan has set ambitious targets for the near future, aiming to sell 50% more new electric motorcycles by 2030 and 2040, respectively.
These targets are not only necessary for environmental sustainability but highlight the potential for job creation within the growing electric vehicle sector.
