Land holdings in Sindh are much bigger than in the Punjab, as a result of which farming has not been practiced with prioritizing the plight of peasants. Coupled with that, the use of hybrid seeds allows for crops to last for only one season rather than all year round. This enables big feudal landlords to extract their profit, leaving farmers destitute after the season ends. Given the importance of the agricultural sector, it has become incumbent to plant seeds that can give higher yields all year round. Moreover, agronomists argue that climate change calls for adaptation. This requires planting of crops that can resist excess water and drought, depending on what the province may be facing.
