On May 9, 2024, unidentified gun men burst into the home of a family in Surbandar, near Gwadar (Balochistan) and killed 7 workers from the Punjab who were working with barbers for the last many years.

No one claimed responsibility for the incident even though the Baloch Liberation Army had earlier carried out a massacre on ethnic grounds in Noshki on the Iran Pakistan highway.

The BLA has often targeted Punjabis and other non-Baloch groups on the ground that they take away jobs from the local people.

In the latest tragedy at Surbandar, parents of the family killed say they are now left with a young and disabled son to support their home.

Sarbander is an ancient fishing village located about 20 km east of Gwadar, with a population of some 20,000 people.

Balochistan Assembly member Maulana Hidayatullah condemned the incident. Security had reportedly been stepped up after terrorism in Noshki
