The pyramid structure of homes found in Tharparkar resemble the pyramids found in different parts of Africa. The theory goes that in desert areas, it is essential to make the structures safe from rain, so that water does not seep in and destroy valuables. In particular, Egyptian pyramids made sure that the mummies of the dead were not spoiled by rain. Experts interviewed for the story said that the homes are archaic, even as the name for the huts – choira, is found in Sanskrit language. These homes are made of different materials, but locals say that there is a declining trend of making them.
