
Potohar Organization for Development Activity (PODA), founded by Sameena Nazir, sponsored its 17th rural women’s conference in Islamabad in the last week of October with a unified voice to tackle gender inequality in Pakistan.
The event was an occasion for rural women from the four provinces to show-case their products and demonstrate their ability to become economically independent.
The European Union ambassador, Dr Riina Kionka announced a 4-million-pound project to enhance gender equality and promote women’s political leadership.
She spoke of how women in the West had to struggle against the patriarchal mindset in order to carve out a place for themselves in society.
A galaxy of women politicians and leaders in their respective fields addressed the gathering which brought together representatives from 130 districts, belonging to the four provinces.
The three day international meeting concluded with local songs and cultural dances.
