History of Aga Khans in Sindh
We present our first in-depth investigative report on the history of the Aga Khans in Sindh. It is a fascinating look back from the collapse of the Fatimid dynasty in Egypt to the arrival of the Imams from Iran. It was a turning point in Ismaili history when Aga Khan 1 had to leave Greater Persia. Aga Khan’s armies supported the British as they tried unsuccessfully to subdue unruly tribes in Afghanistan and Baluchistan. In 1843, when British General Charles Napier telegrammed London that he had `Sinned,’ (Sind), it was in part due to help from Aga Khan 1’s armies. Not only did the Khojas fight local tribes, but helped the British establish connection between Hyderabad and Karachi. Great Britain established its military outpost in Jhirk, from where the Aga Khan’s followers helped the British conquer Sindh.
