In a society roamed by men, women either don’t appear in public spaces or if they do they try to make themselves unrecognizable. Wrapped in black burqas, dupattas and face veils helps to create invisibility. Underlying this philosophy is the concept of ownership of women, where defiance against patriarchy leads to violence. With the choice of who to marry taken away from women, they suffer from `honor killings,’ in case they dare use their own minds. The net result is a severely deprived society, where the best and brightest are locked away and treated as baby incubators. In this situation, society barely limps while its neighbor India and Bangladesh gallops toward education and prosperity.
