Bangladesh-Pak Relations Rise with Direct Flights
The ouster of Sheikh Hasina Wajed, daughter of Sheikh Mujeeb ur Rehman and her asylum in India has brought Pakistan closer to its former East Pakistan wing. On Jan. 29, 2026, Bangladesh airlines scheduled its first direct flight in 14 years between Dhaka and Karachi. This has been preceded by easing visa restrictions, which should enable Biharis and Bengalis in Pakistan to go back and forth to their nation of origin. With Bangladesh scheduled to hold elections on Feb 12, 2026, the likelihood of a pro Pakistan government seems more possible than during its 55 year old history of separation from `West Pakistan.’
