Women in Multan have kept up the tradition of engravings on utensils and ornaments in turquoise blue and camel skin colors, even while helping market the vessels for commercial purposes.
Passed on through the generations, the molds are often made by women artists. Once made, the molds are engraved at a central location or at home.
Afterwards, the vessels are supplied to antique markets. Women also market their products online and to their family and friends.
Often referred to as Naqsh art (the art of engravings), the work is inspired by motifs that are found throughout the Middle East and Central Asian regions.
It gives women the opportunity to both earn and keep traditions alive.
