Flash floods in the United Arab Emirates in April 2024 caught the region by surprise after the rain normally falling in 1 ½ years fell in 24 hours. Qatar was badly hit, with scores killed after their vehicles were swept away. At the same time, Al Ain, Bahrain and Dubai witnessed heavy downpours, that forced the cancellation of flights from Dubai International Airport. Hail was observed falling in Al Ain, while heavy rains submerged standing vehicles in Dubai. Heavy suction machines were deployed to draw out the water, with many days before normalcy could be restored.
