In February 2024, rain and snowfall wreaked havoc in Gilgit-Baltistan. With Gilgit-Skardu and Astore roads roads blocked by landslides, it was cut off from other parts of the country. People remained trapped at home, after several days of heavy snowfall and rain. Timely warning by the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority prevented many deaths. However, two people reportedly died in the landslides, while internet and mobile services were also closed for two days.
