The Khojak Railway Tunnel, constructed by the British from Qila Abdullah to Chaman in the late 19th century was an engineering feat of its times. Almost 4 km long, the tunnel stretched from Qila Abdullah to Chaman, traversing high, hilly terrain. The tunnel was built during the rule of the last Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten at a time when Britain feared Russian expansion into South Asia. So determined were the British, that they deployed workers from across India and Bengal at poverty wages. Now 133 years old, the tunnel still serves as a useful source for running trains in the Balochistan region.
