Pakistan’s ports have attracted ships from across the world during the last five weeks of war. It has enabled authorities to charge fees to ships to berth, off load cargo, store cargo and refuel as they wait for conditions to improve across the Strait of Hormuz. It has given a new lease on life to the Karachi Port, Port Qasim and Gwadar Port, which despite theirs strategic location have normally failed to attract ships. Pakistan is now going into high gear to promote itself as a safe alternate destination, which can handle ships at international standards. Although it is uncertain if Iran will be charging ships to cross the Strait, Pakistan is positioning itself as an alternate destination port.
