A seminar titled “Futuristics of Save Indus Rivers Movement ” was organized by the Sindh United Thinkers Forum . The event brought together water experts, environmentalists, and civil society members to raise alarm over the growing crisis facing the Indus River.
Experts revealed that the Indus Basin is facing a 60per water shortage, which poses a grave threat to Sindh’s ecology, agriculture, and livelihoods. Speakers condemned the federal government’s controversial six canals project on the Indus River, stating that while the project has been postponed , it has not been cancelled and is merely in “cold storage.” They emphasized that the people of Sindh are united in their opposition and will not accept any such scheme at any level.
The seminar highlighted the ecological consequences of diverting Indus waters and called for sustainable, inclusive water policies that prioritize the rights of lower riparian regions. Participants urged the Sindh government to take a firm stand and resist any revival of the canal project. The event concluded with a call for broader mobilization under the banner of the Save Indus Rivers Movement.
