Imarat Karachi office observed Pinktober with an awareness raising event dedicated to breast cancer prevention among its young female employees.
The session highlighted the global and national scale of the disease by affirming by the women how importance it was for self-examination and early detection. In particular, there was a stress on having early mammogram screening in order to detect any lumps that were not visible to the eye. The danger arose if someone’s family member had been diagnosed with cancer, in which case regular screening was essential, the session emphasized.
Worldwide, breast cancer accounts for around 2.3 million new cases every year , resulting in approximately 670,000 deaths . Current projections suggest that by 2050, annual cases may rise to over 3 million if preventive steps are not strengthened. Today, about 1 in every 20 women globally faces a lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. The situation in Pakistan is even more alarming.. The country records nearly 90,000 new cases each year, giving it one of the highest breast-cancer rates in Asia. In major urban centres like Karachi, the rate reaches around 69 cases per 100,000 women, underscoring the urgency of awareness and early detection.
Through its Pinktober initiative, Imarat reinforced its commitment to employee wellbeing and community health. The event encouraged everyone to become advocates for awareness empowering women, promoting regular check-ups, and fostering a workplace culture where health conversations are open, informed and where cancer survivors can recount their stories without facing stigma.
