Hoshu Shidi – Last Man Standing
Hosh Mohammed Shidi was an African slave who was trafficked from Sudan and worked for the Talpur family. However, he managed to free himself from slavery and join the Talpur resistance against the British’s attempts to invade Sindh. His rallying cry `Marsoo, Marsoo, Sindh Na Desu’ (I will die but not give up Sindh), was borne out during his battle at Miani. Hoshoo is cited to have dared the British invaders, led by Sir Charles Napier at the battle of Dubbo, near Hyderabad. There, Gen. Hoshoo was killed in the face of the invading British army. The same year Gen. Sir Charles Napier invaded Sindh in 1843, sending off the iconic phrase to London, `Peccavi’ – I have Sinned.
