The erratic rain and snowfall in Gilgit Baltistan have delayed planting of crops by one month. It has also thrown farmers into worry about the shortened growing season, when fruits and vegetables will have to be harvested before time. Agriculturists in the mountainous regions have already suffered from rapid glacial melt, which has reduced the amount of water needed to irrigate their lands. In Feb 2025, it snowed when it should have rained in hilly regions, making it impossible to plant new crops. The local population is now concerned that crops will not ripen after suffering unseasonable cold and not be ready for sowing when the season ends.
