An enterprising woman in Tharparkar, Marwan Meghwar has opened a garment manufacturing center in her area, where she teaches sewing to young women on modern machines. Together with her brother, Marwan brought modern sewing machines to her locality. While her brother procured commercial orders from Karachi’s garment factories. The brother and sister pass on the orders to young women to make frocks or dresses that are worn in the big city. It is a step that has been highly appreciated by the women, who are learning from the trade and say that they are earning much more than they experienced. The garment center is the first of its kind in Thar, which has made the women self-reliant and independent.
