Afghan Sit-in Closes Border
Thousands of Afghans have been sitting at the Chaman border with Afghanistan since October 2023, to protest against the one passport regime.
The sit-in is the longest undertaken by the Afghans to protest against the Pakistan government’s restriction on their movements.
It has brought trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan to a standstill, resulting in losses of millions of rupees.
The chief minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti has formed a committee comprising Interior Minister Zia Lango, Speaker Balochistan Assembly, Captain (R) Abdul Khalique Achakzai, DIG Police, and Home Secretary.
It has met with traders, political leaders, and the sit-in committee without success.
The protesters plan on a more stringent course if their demands are not met in June 2024.
