Around 450,00 Afghan refugees were repatriated to Afghanistan in the first phase. It included Afghans who did not have any official documentation. The caretaker government extended the deportation of refugees to February 29, 2024. At that stage, they were warned that if the refugees failed to obtain documentation by March 2024 or did not move to another country, they would be required to pay $400 fine. The fine would be redoubled if still efforts were not made to return, officials warned.
