In a village of Ruk Railway Station, nestled within District Shikarpur, Pakistan, a talented artist is quietly crafting a story of determination and creativity.

Asif Kalhoro’s remarkable journey from a modest upbringing in the Ruk Railway Station area, to a celebrated artist, serves as an inspiring testament to the transformative power of art.

After completing his village education, he embarked on a quest for higher learning, eventually earning a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) degree in Sukkur.

Little did he know that his academic foundation would serve as a stepping-stone for his artistic ambitions.

The art world unfolded before Asif’s eyes during his pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. Speaking exclusively to JB Connects, he narrated, “Under the mentorship of a guiding hand in Sukkur, I unearthed my passion for art by using Plaster of Paris creations.”

“I invested countless hours in learning and refining my skills, ultimately venturing into the expansive world of artistic expression. Art ceased to be just a pastime. Instead, it became a creative medium for me to convey emotions and preserve our cultural heritage.”

One of the most astonishing aspects of Asif’s journey is his self-taught mastery of wood carving.

“Through online tutorials on YouTube, I independently learned intricate techniques,” he shared.

Asif’s art is deeply personal and serves as a vessel for the expression of his emotions. His portfolio spans a wide range of creations, from wood carvings of iconic figures, intricate pieces made fromPlaster of Paris and masterful calligraphy.

But it is Asif’s wood carvings that truly stand out. His creations pay tribute to luminaries who have left an indelible mark on society, including figures like Sain G.M Syed, Sain Ibrahim Joyo, Che Guevara, Jesus Christ, and Sheikh Ayaz. These luminaries spring to life through Asif’s meticulous craftsmanship.

Additionally, he inscribes verses from the poetry of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, ensuring that the rich cultural heritage of Sindh remains alive.

Crafting portraits of iconic figures holds a special purpose for Asif.

“These luminaries have left an indelible mark on society through their humanitarian efforts, ” he explained.

“Their advocacy for freedom, social equality, and awareness resonates deeply with me,” he added.

Each of Asif’s creations is a labor of love, demanding rigorous effort, including wood carving, oil painting, and nail art. It typically takes three to four days of dedicated work to complete a single portrait. This unwavering commitment to perfection is what sets Asif’s art apart.

“In a world where youth often face isolation and financial instability, I believe that embracing the world of art can open new horizons,” he shared.
