Hundreds of families have been devastated by the Gul Plaza fire which gutted 1,200 shops and claimed over 100 lives. The $18 million economic loss does not match the pain suffered by families, whose loved ones have been so badly burned that even DNA records have not identified them. The shops carried plastic items, sprays, perfumes and other flammable items which caught fire so rapidly that the smoke lingers several days after the fire. Worse still it was night time and the heavy smoke prevented people from rushing to exits. Currently the government is demolishing the plaza with little hope of finding survivors or even their remains.
