Wars picked up momentum in 2025, as nations stepped up defense spending. The US proposed 1 trillion dollars in arms spending, sending shipments to Israel and Ukraine and to global conflict areas where it has interests. Meanwhile, the arms and ammunition left by the US after it withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021, was used by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and the Balochistan Liberation Army against Pakistan. Pakistan, which blames Indian funding of these non-state actors engaged in a four day war against India after the Pahalgam terror attack in Indian Kashmir. All in all, Pakistan increased its defense spending by 20 percent while shrinking its allocation in the development sector.
