Double-decker buses have begun plying in Karachi, in an attempt to combat traffic congestion. The buses have been imported from China and are cited by the government to reach 50,000 this year. Passengers interviewed by JB Connects cite the experience as comfortable and affordable – given that the government is subsidizing the costs of travel. So far, the Sindh government has introduced five buses but without outlining a comprehensive plan on how the buses would ply on existing narrow streets and on the wider issue of creating an underground transportation system that could transport the burgeoning population.
