The Pak Tajik Cultural Festival is underway at the Lok Virsa in Islamabad, to bring a historic turning point in the relations between the two countries. Tajikistan is among the Muslim `Tan’ nations in Central Asia that declared independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. Its cultural songs and dance have synchronized with the performances by Pakistan’s artists, even as its handicrafts and embroidered dresses bear a striking similarity to the clothing worn in the region. According to the Tajik Minister of Culture, Urdu and Tajik poetry originate from the same intellectual and cultural roots and therefore resonate between peoples of both nations.
