The successful cultivation of olive trees in Balochistan’s agricultural wastelands is promising to generate revenue for the province. Olive saplings imported five years ago from Italy and Spain have taken root and begun yielding olives that are of international quality. Balochistan’s enterpreneurs have gone a step further than other provinces in extracting olive oil in higher quantities. Moreover, they have advised other growers to cultivate olives as a cash crop. Locally, they have made a beginning by sending overseas, bottles of high quality olive oil. There is also a recognition among health conscious individuals in Balochistan and across Pakistan to use the olive oil to sautee vegetables and use it as salad dressing
