Kashmiris are a proud nation that incorporate their geographical location with language, food and clothing. On Oct. 24, 1947 Kashmiris incorporated their Muslim territory inside Pakistan by rising against the Dogra regime. Also called Azad Jammu and Kashmir, they use the day to highlight different facets of their culture. This translates into facilitating the different dialects in which Kashmiri is spoken, exhibiting clothing like Kashmiri shawls worn in cold weather and eating meat to battle against the cold elements. While many parts of their culture have still not been properly viewed in Pakistan, they have received international recognition.
