The Kalash Valley in Pakistan’s north is famous for its beauty and tranquility. Less known is the spirit of independence of the Kalash women, who also proudly champion their culture. Kalash women enjoy the right to select their own life partners, without being paraded like show pieces in arranged marriages. However, this has given rise to misconceptions by outsider men – who come to the valley from different parts of Pakistan, to select beautiful girls. In recent interviews with JB Connects, Kalash women cleared up the misconceptions. They also spoke of their desire to obtain higher education, while staying ambassadors for their unique culture.
