The 16th Karachi Literature Festival (KLF), held Feb 7-9, 2025, at the Beach Luxury Hotel, was a vibrant celebration of literature and culture. Titled “Narratives from the Soil,” the festival highlighted Pakistan’s rich literary heritage and contemporary voices. Over 200 literary figures from Pakistan and the diaspora, engaged in multiple sessions, including 26 book launches. Members of government, with civil society roles held discourses like Senator Sherry Rehman, while Karachi Mayor spoke about the city’s developmental initiatives and engaged with concerns voiced by citizens.

The Karachi Literature Festival 2025 brought together writers, intellectuals, and book lovers for a vibrant exchange of ideas. Journalist Mazhar Abbas launched his book `Journey through Chaos,’ with a panel discussion held to discuss political activism and journalism in Pakistan. Among the more thought-provoking sessions was a session by Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy discussing his latest book, Pakistan: Origins, Identity, and Future.

Dr. Hoodbhoy highlighted how historical narratives have often been distorted and emphasized the need for an honest, fact-based understanding of the country’s past. The session sparked a lively discussion on national identity, education, and the challenges of rewriting history with integrity.

With a mix of literary debates, political discourse, and cultural discussions, KLF 2025 once again proved to be a crucial platform for intellectual engagement in Pakistan.

The 16th KLF successfully fostered a space for intellectual engagement, cultural expression, and the celebration of Pakistan’s diverse narratives, leaving attendees inspired and looking forward to the next book festival.
