With the onset of winter in Karachi, literary festivals abound.
The Sindh Literature Festival was held in December in Karachi. One big focus was on the Indus River, with speakers lamenting the shortage of water that is needed to be released yearly toward the ocean.
Another major topic was the absence of tolerance in Sindh, the home of Sufis. In particular, there was discussion on how intolerance had penetrated the province, as seen by the response to peaceful marchers in Karachi.
There were also discussions on recently unveiled books. Former professor, Moonis Shaikh Ayaz released his memoirs of life in the US on the occasion.
The SLF is also an occasion where Sindhi handicrafts are exhibited.
This year’s event was held in the premises of the Liaquat National Library in Karachi.
