study in 2007 revealed that the Indus Delta is among the deltas worldwide, which are sinking because not enough water enters the Indus River.

In seasons, when glaciers melt fast and plentiful water enters the river from Balochistan and Sindh, it enables stranded boats to move into the river.

During such seasons, there are plentiful fish and the fisherfolk who venture out into the seas are able to earn a reasonable living.

However, they observe that there are years when there is drought and little fish to catch.

In such circumstances, they recommend that water be released downstream from Kotri into the sea so that marine life can prosper and the delta may be healthy again.
