Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban have been incrementally increasing repressive measures against women.
This is in defiance of all international norms, under which the world refuses to recognize the new regime until it regards women’s rights as human rights.
Currently, women who had big dreams of making a place for themselves in society, have been barred from education after Grade 6. They have also been stopped from stepping out of their homes without a male related by blood.
In Kabul and Qandahar, where Afghan women were previously employed in different professions, they are now deprived of the right to work or to support dependent members of their families.
The Taliban have also cracked down on entertainment like music ,dramas , playing cards, Ludo or smoking Hookah. Television has been restricted to showing stills rather than live events.
According to UNHCR, 2.5 million girls have lost their jobs or left their studies after the rule of the Taliban and are now sitting in their homes.
