Pakistan held its first International Date Palm Festival at the Karachi Expo Center, with the cooperation of the United Arab Emirates.

A huge variety of dates were show-cased at the event, with dates grown by farmers from the UAE , Middle East and Africa and locally from Khairpur Mir, Sindh , Multan, Punjab, Dera Ghazi Khan and from Balochistan.

In addition, biscuits, coffee ,Halwa and other food items made from dates were also available for visitors.

The festival was aimed at promoting dates produced in Pakistan in order to increase exports.

The issue has become of pressing importance to farmers since climate change has brought diminishing returns.
