The Sui Southern Gas Company sponsored cyclists from the Pak Cyclists Federation to participate in a 140 km rally from Karachi to Thatta on Sept 8, 2024 as part of Defence Day celebrations.
Six women participated in the event, but with a distance limit of only 20 km.
However, the physically fit women cyclists like Rabia Gharib and Sumaira managed to complete the 140 km distance to Jhirk, Thatta – with Rabia clinching first position among women.
According to the cyclists, the rally was essential not only to boost their health but was critical in an age of climate change, when the world was replacing motor vehicles with bicycles.
In total, some 50 cyclists participated from across the country, with awards distributed to them after reaching Thatta.
