In late 2024, the overheated South Asia witnessed a rare phenomenon. With a low pressure forming over the Gujarat region, a cyclone formed in the Indian ocean. Its effect was to cause thunderstorms across Pakistan. Desert regions of Sindh including Mithi, Tharparkar experienced intense rainfall. But rain fell all across Pakistan, including Murree, Punjab and Balochistan – resulting in a total of 138.9 mm. The above average rainfall was attributed to the unusually long and overheated summer, when the temperatures didn’t fall even at night.
