Fishing nets being used by fisherfolk in the ocean have such tiny holes that they end up trapping marine life, without filtering out tiny creatures that are still in the growing phase. This has led to a drastic cut in the fish, causing some species to become almost extinct. The worst sufferers are local fisherfolk. They contend that outsiders, driven by the profit motive, are overfishing their waters.

Furthermore, they say that despite a ban on certain types of nets, the government has failed to enforce any such limits. According to international experts, Pakistan will have to reduce fishing by 60 percent to allow marine life to return to the waters.
