After 2015, when over 1,200 people died, June 2024 turned out to be one of the hottest months on record in Karachi. Visits to government and private hospitals showed that elderly people succumbed to heat by the dozens.
At the same time, laborers working under the open skies were suffering from heat stroke. This year, cooling centers established by the government helped give relief to people and avoided unnecessary deaths.
