Rain Drops in the Desert
Differently abled, Siyal Kakar has defied conventional norms in the Taliban dominated Qila Saifullah area in Balochistan, to pursue his passion for playing music.
Blind in both eyes, but with staunch courage, Kakar has opened a music training institute where young boys without sight hone their skills.
Following the Afghan Jihad of the 1980s, and resultant extremism, music was banned along the Durand Line.
Artists were hounded and their skills were discouraged by society, but Siyal Kakar and his students remained like the bright ray of light in a dark night.
But Siyal persisted and pursued his passion for music and song. He also gave his blind students priority, so they did not suffer from an inferiority complex.
It has enabled the youth of Durand Line, Zhob and Qilla Saifullah to get trained in music and learn to live a more peaceful and enriched life.
