Sell Scrap, Educate Kids
In Hyderabad Sindh, Agha Shakeel, a graduate student from Quaid-e-Azam University takes out a Chinki rickshaw every day and picks up scrap from homes in different areas.
Shakeel then sells the scrap to a junk dealer, who buys it at above market rates. That enables him to earn money that can pay for education of the poor.
Agha Shakeel with his wife Aisha and friends started this work in Islamabad in 2013.
After graduating from the university, they continued it in Hyderabad.
Shakeel has now formalized this work and named it ‘Coin the Education’, adding his list of volunteers from other cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Karachi.
Some 3,300 children studying in different districts of Sindh get a year’s worth of stationery from the diligent selling of scrap by the couple.
