The idea of providing space to village women to gather and acquire knowledge that gives them autonomy, has taken root in Sanghar.

Hameeda Baloch from the Ghulam Hyder Marri village has opened the space – `Aurataq’ as a spin-off from Autaq, which is typically reserved for men.

From personal to public issues, the women gather to express themselves in an environment that would otherwise see them quiet and confined.

Hameeda uses the space to discuss health issues that concern women, enabling them to deal directly with their problems.

Her goal is to inform, educate and brainstorm in order to turn problems into an opportunity.

Hameeda has had to overcome many challenges to acquire the space, including those from local landlords.

In so doing, she has turned into a role model of what young women can achieve if they set up the goal of social upliftment.
