This Iftar has exposed the level of food insecurity in Pakistan, as hundreds of poor, lower-middle and even middle-class people throng to break their fast at the stalls set up by philanthropist organizations during Ramadan. Donors like JDC, Chippa, Saylani and We CAY have had a long experience of catering to the less fortunate in Karachi. They report that the salaried class, who normally experienced shame at turning up for Sehri or Iftar, are now waiting patiently at their doorsteps for the food aid given during Ramadan.
