
Unknown armed assailants attacked miners on the night of Oct 10-11 in Duki, Balochistan where they killed 20 miners and set their equipment on fire.
Several miners saved themselves by jumping into mines. Others hid on roof tops, but still sustained injuries during the mass firings.
The victims belonged to Afghanistan, and included Pashtuns settled in Loralai, Zhob and Qilan Saifullah.
The Balochistan Liberation Army denied any involvement in the incident, in which attackers were heard speaking in Pashtu.
The incident occurred in Duki, 300 kilometers northeast of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. There are about 800 coal mines in the area, where 15,000 miners extract around 5,000 tons of coal daily.
Several attacks have previously targeted coal mines and trucks transporting coal.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Balochistan has registered a case against unknown assailants and stated that investigations are underway.
